📐 Calculation Methodology

Unlike a brick-masonry foundation (where quantities are usually scaled from covered area), an RCC wall + strip footing foundation follows the actual foundation layout, so this calculator works directly off your total foundation wall length (RFT) and the footing/wall cross-section you specify:

  • Excavation: Trench width (footing width + working space) × Trench depth (footing thickness + RCC wall height) × Wall length
  • PCC (Lean Concrete): Footing width × PCC thickness × Wall length, mix 1:4:8
  • RCC Footing: 3 ft wide × 9 in thick (default) strip footing, mix 1:2:4, ~0.8% steel by volume
  • RCC Wall: Wall thickness × Wall height × Wall length, mix 1:2:4, ~1.2% steel by volume (replaces brick masonry)
  • Plinth / Tie Beam: Cast on top of the RCC wall, mix 1:2:4, ~1.5% steel by volume
  • Labour: Mason, steel fixer, and compactor charges based on total concrete volume

Concrete mix quantities use the standard 1.54 dry volume factor and a 1.25 Cft/bag cement conversion. All figures are based on common site practice in Pakistan and should be cross-checked against your structural drawings.

2. Why is the footing 3 ft wide and 9 in thick?

A 3 ft wide × 9 in thick strip footing is a common size for low to medium-rise structures on reasonable soil bearing capacity. The exact width and thickness should always be confirmed by a structural engineer based on the soil bearing capacity and building loads.

3. How is the excavation depth determined?

Excavation depth is auto-calculated as Footing Thickness + RCC Wall Height — i.e., the trench is dug deep enough to cast the footing and then build the RCC wall up to plinth level within it.

4. How much steel is used in an RCC foundation wall?

This calculator assumes about 1.2% steel by concrete volume in the RCC wall (roughly 95 kg per m³), which is a common thumb-rule range for lightly to moderately reinforced foundation walls. Actual reinforcement must follow the structural drawing.

5. Can I change the footing or wall size?
